Job Description

<strong style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif; font-size:10pt">Summary: Assist the store manager in making supervisory decisions that are consistent with Town Pump standards, policies, and procedures.  Assist in planning, leadership, organizing, and follow-ups in the areas of controllable expenses, sales increases, inside gross margins, shortage controls, promotions programs, and monitoring of competitors.  Set proper example for co-workers in terms of professionalism, attitude, and teamwork in all areas, including customer service.  Assist in maintaining adequate staffing.


  1. Customer service to include communicating with customers, resolving complaints and inquiries.
  2. Daily bookwork when assigned using computer to record employee information, inventory and sales information.
  3. Make bank deposit as required.
  4. Fill in for absent employees as required.
  5. Order supplies and merchandise when assigned.
  6. Answer telephone and screen calls.
  7. Cleaning of store and restrooms.
  8. Stock cooler and shelves.
  9. Effectively prioritizing, organizing, delegating, and following up on store tasks to be accomplished per assigned shift duties.
  10. Security of all store assets.  Control of cash, fuel, and inventories.  Control of store merchandise and labor hours.  Follow-up on risk analysis and camera systems as required.
  11. New employee hiring, training, and orientation as assigned.
  12. Merchandising, to include receiving, pricing, stocking, displaying, and rotating of inventories.
  13. Store maintenance and basic repairs.
  14. Inventorying of merchandise.
  15. Keying of daily sales.
  16. Invoicing merchandise.
  17. Documenting the coaching/disciplining and/or terminating problem employees.
  18. Enforcing all company policies and procedures.
  19. Supervisory decisions that are consistent with Town Pump Inc. standards, policies and procedures.
  20. Timely follow-up and completion of all assigned tasks.
  21. Prompt and professional responses in evaluating and solving employee conflict.

Job Specifications (Qualifications)

Qualification Requirements:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional experience should be in the area of supervision and retail operations with a strong background in sales and marketing.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Experience with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, SAP, LMS, PDI, and camera systems.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


  • Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.


  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in all types of weather and road conditions.
  • Ability to maintain store at or above acceptable operational standards.
  • Ability to prepare & complete reports and operational tasks and report in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ability to assist cashiers and all other store positions as required.
  • Ability to meet convenience store performance goals.
  • Ability to ensure employees wear proper uniform & maintain personal hygiene to meet all health standards.
  • Ensure and maintain proper attitude, professionalism, and teamwork in areas of customer service and store operations.
  • Ability to maintain control over all store expenses.
