Hotel Breakfast Attendant

Job Description Summary

Summary: Performs routine duties in setting up the daily complimentary breakfast, ensures that items are well stocked, and cleans up after breakfast.  This position requires multi-tasking while communicating with guests regarding what the breakfast offers, as well as providing general information about the hotel. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Interact with guests and coworkers in a professional and courteous manner.  Must maintain a high degree of pride in job performance.
  2. Maintain excellent hygiene and personal appearance.  Must be in uniform at all times.
  3. Continuously monitor all presentation items on serving line for quality standards.
  4. Store and handle food items according to proper guidelines.
  5. Clean all equipment used to serve food and all areas that food is served or prepared in.  This includes, but is not limited to mopping, vacuuming, dusting and scrubbing areas involved in serving and preparing food.
  6. Empty and wash all trash containers and remove trash to the dumpster area.
  7. Maintain inventories and adjust to fluctuations in business levels.  Manage inventory to minimize spoilage.  Order inventory and supplies used for the breakfast bar and preparation areas.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. May be required to accomplish general cleaning tasks in public areas.
  2. Any other duties as assigned by the Manager.

Job Specifications (Qualifications)

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to six months of related experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.  Background in food preparation, general housekeeping, and customer service is beneficial.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.  Write simple correspondence.  Must be able to read, write and speak English.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide.  Must be able to perform basic math computations at the 8th grade level.

COMPUTER SKILLS: None.

REASONING ABILITY: Apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and/or oral instructions.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • None.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work a varied number of hours per week on a rotating basis.
  • Ability to understand the enormous part they play in making the total Inn operable.
  • Ability to operate a vacuum cleaner and report malfunctions as they occur.
  • Ability to learn and comprehend all company policies pertaining to position and employment.
  • Ability to see problem areas arise and be able to communicate those problems.
  • Must be mature, neat in appearance, courteous, friendly, outgoing, and know what to do or say in dealing with people.
  • Must possess a sense of discretion and confidentiality.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Must be able to regularly lift 15 to 20 pounds (i.e.: full trays of food, full satellites of coffee, milk crates, miscellaneous stocking) and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds (i.e.: waffle mix, boxes of produce).  Position requires frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, walking, carrying, lifting, climbing, and manual dexterity.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: The work environment characteristics described are representative of those encountered by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • Ability to work in an atmosphere that is demanding, sometimes hot, and physical.
  • Ability to work in an open environment with frequent interruptions and customer interaction.
  • Ability to tolerate cleaning solutions on a regular basis.
