Store Assistant Manager

Job Description Summary

Summary: Assist the store manager in enforcement of supervisory decisions that are consistent with Town Pump standards, policies and procedures.  Assist the store manager in achieving and maintaining product pricing, inventory, buildups, merchandise, store appearance and cleanliness, product dating, outdated merchandise, maintaining signage, promotions, invoicing, cigarette store maintenance, shelf tags, and vender control.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Store Manager may designate some or all of the essential duties and responsibilities to the Assistant Manager.  In larger locations, the Grocery Merchandiser may be responsible for items 11, 12, and 13.

  1. Serve as Acting Store Manager during the Store Manager's absence (when Co-Manager or MIT are not available).
  2. Fill in for absent employees, especially on the till or in the deli.
  3. Assist the store manager as needed with employee scheduling, completion of paperwork including books and cashier duties.
  4. Advise store manager of personnel situations or policy violations having an effect on store operations.
  5. Prioritize, organize, delegate, and follow up on assigned shift tasks. Maintain spacing, cleanliness and orderliness of cashier lanes.  Keep the counter, shelves and stocked areas neat and clean to include dusting of shelves and merchandise.
  6. Conduct preventive store maintenance and basic repairs.
  7. Promote store safety.
  8. Perform administrative tasks to include bookkeeping, payroll, record and file maintenance and daily bank deposits.
  9. Supervise staff, training and scheduling.
  10. Assist with new employee training and orientation as directed by the manager.
  11. Complete inventory and ordering.
  12. Order product, identify and ensure accurate pricing and maintain product inventory.
    1. Orders merchandise for the location, using proper buildups.
    2. Vendor check in by line item number, cross checking order with items received. 
    3. Invoice entry and auditing for correct cost and retail.
    4. Check in and put away merchandise.
    5. Correct and maintain all product pricing, daily if necessary; including down load price changes from G-site, cooler pricing, mark ups/downs, white tag items, product tag numbers updated, track updated and discontinued items.
    6. Maintain backstock at minimum level.
    7. Keep product rotated, fresh and check expiration dates. Remove and discard unauthorized product.
    8. Return guaranteed items.
  13. Maintain displays and signage
    1. Compile and promote top seller list.
    2. Cross merchandise displays.
    3. Build imaginative displays using all available space.
    4. Set per schematic - aid from vendors.
    5. Maintain proper usage and ordering of all DSD displays, gondola sections, etc.
    6. Maintain correct and complete promo signage - in store and out (reader boards, pump toppers, handle ads, building signage, banner, inside sales, etc.).
    7. Relays of merchandise.
    8. Set up extra Ad items.
  14. Maintain cigarette store: ads, merchandise, compliance contracts, product dating, etc.
  15. Greet customers and communicate with them, providing exceptional customer service.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Perform all cashier/deli duties as described in cashier/deli job description.
  2. Clear gas consoles, turn on pumps.
  3. Fill water/cleaning solution buckets on islands.
  4. Police the store.
  5. Put incoming groceries/merchandise away on shelves and/or cooler.  Stock cooler.
  6. Clean restrooms, empty garbage containers.
  7. Other duties as assigned by supervisors.

 

Job Specifications (Qualifications)

Qualification Requirements:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in the area of supervision and retail operations with a strong background in sales and marketing is a plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Prefer experience or knowledge of the following software: MS Excel, MS Word and Company computer based program, PDI.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Ability to carryout and enforce Town Pump, Inc. standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate a ten key calculator with accuracy and speed.
  • Demonstrate collaborative leadership skills and expected work ethic while developing team member's performance through proper feedback. 
  • Demonstrate strong staff management skills with a commitment to collaboration and mentorship.
